Enmacc

Europe's leading platform for OTC energy trading

Enmacc
Background
On Enmacc's B2B energy platform, the key workflow was the RFQ (Request for Quote). It used to run on spreadsheets and long email chains, which was slow and full of errors. My job was to design a modern RFQ module, later named Entender, to speed up the request and response flow and cut mistakes. I interviewed 12 people across trading, middle office, and compliance. Three RFQ types stood out:

  • Mass RFQs: one request sent to many counterparties at once.
  • Targeted RFQs: specific terms negotiated with chosen counterparties.
  • Live Pricing RFQs: instant replies based on real-time prices.
Pain Points
  • Manual data entry and email overload
  • Hard to track RFQ status and replies
  • No easy way to compare quotes side by side
  • Users were attached to Excel and Google Sheets
Wireframes
In the first design sprint, we explored two wireframe directions for the Entender module.
Traders also relied on spread orders, so we built a double order card from an existing component instead of adding new ones. A single deal card can hold over 200 states, giving traders the speed and flexibility they need, and cards instead of lists removed many extra clicks. Together these changes lifted retention (7 and 30 days), clicks per session, and session length.
Risk Settings
Credit settings are a core trader tool. They fine-tune each counterparty to keep risk in check. I found two problems here:
• adding one counterparty took 6 clicks
• adding several meant repeating the same steps
Enmarket
A partnership gave us API quotes from several exchanges, so we could show real-time prices in the platform. We called it enmarket: an open price screen and marketplace for one-click trading of standard power and gas products. I built the MVP, gathered requirements from stakeholders and engineers, and ran quality checks after launch.
Engreen
I also built the MVP for trading clean energy. As this area grew fast, I focused on improving the design to fit user needs better.
Measure success
To see if the designs worked, we tracked KPIs like retention and engagement.

I also gathered feedback at trade shows like E-world and Bautec, where Enmacc showed its products. Users found the UI easy and could close deals on their own, with no onboarding.
Results
This project gave me a close look at professional energy trading from end to end. I learned to design for traders under tight constraints. With no 1-on-1 interviews, I relied on product data to guide decisions, which was both hard and rewarding.
